Meet the Ladies of the Graduating Class of 2026
For the young women of Show-Me Christian Youth Home’s Class of
2026, the story isn’t just about where they are going—it’s about what has shaped them along the way.
Though their paths were different, Samantha, Taija, and Sophia built a foundation rooted in faith and discovered what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves. At Show-Me, they experienced a family grounded in the love of Christ, where even as circumstances changed, God remained constant. Now, they carry that same hope forward, desiring to be a light in the lives of others.
Stepping Into Confidence
Samantha came to Show-Me in 2021 after her dad began teaching there. At first, it felt unfamiliar. She remembers feeling shy and often held back by anxiety, unsure of where she fit or how much of herself to share. But her first impression was simple—it felt like a family. In the classroom, at lunch, and in everyday conversations, she found people who noticed her and cared about her. “No matter what,” she said, “someone was always willing to talk with me.”

That environment didn’t just support her—it helped shape her.
The sense of being known began to change her. Through daily mentorship, hearing others share their testimonies, and the messages in chapel, her faith started to grow. What once felt intimidating became familiar. What once felt uncertain began to feel possible. “Everything was centered around doing our best to honor God,” she shared.
As she grew more confident, she began to step into new opportunities. Through sports, involvement on the praise team in chapel, and programs like Leadership U, she put that growth into action. Each step stretched her, but it also strengthened her. Now, she plans to go to college and pursue elementary education, hoping to be a safe place and steady example for students who may be where she once was.
An Anchor in the Storm

Taija was just two years old when she and her five siblings ended up at Show-Me. “I don’t remember much of my life before then, but it was toxic and not a good environment,” she shared. “My parents made bad decisions, and my grandma couldn’t take care of all six of us.” Through different homes, seasons, and challenges, uncertainty became part of her early story.
But over time, one truth began to stand out. “People come and go,” she said, “but God doesn’t go anywhere.” That realization became her anchor. It wasn’t something she understood all at once, but something that grew through the steady presence of those who chose to invest in her life—houseparents, teachers, and mentors. In those relationships, she began to see something different. She began to see herself differently—not as someone defined by where she came from, but by who she was becoming.

Her faith became personal. “I have found myself in Jesus,” she said, “and it has changed me completely.” Music became one of the ways she began to process and express that growth. Through singing, she found a way to give voice to thoughts and feelings she didn’t always have words for, helping her connect more deeply with both her story and her sense of identity. Over time, through trust, consistency, and the quiet reminder that she was never alone, her faith was transformed. Now, she looks ahead with purpose. Taija plans to attend college and pursue a career as a nurse or EMT, with a desire not only to help others, but to truly be there for them in the moments that matter most, offering the same presence and care that shaped
A Mission of Family
Sophia came to Show-Me when she was four years old, when her parents answered a calling to become houseparents. At the time, she was an only child, but that quickly changed. Over the years, more than 50 children would come through her home, each one becoming part of her life in a unique way. What she experienced was not just a place to live, but a family that was constantly growing. Through shared traditions, trips, holidays, and everyday life together, she learned how to build relationships that mattered.

Through it all, her family remained constant, anchored in faith and surrounded by Christ-centered examples. That environment shaped her deeply. Show-Me didn’t just influence her life—it formed her understanding of what it means to live like Christ: to welcome others,
to serve, and to lean on prayer, especially when the future feels uncertain. Living in a home that was always opening its doors gave her the opportunity to not just learn about faith, but to live it out daily in the way she cared for others.
Along the way, music and sports became important parts of her life. She found a place on the praise team, playing guitar, drums, and piano, while also competing in sports like track, volleyball, and basketball. She has earned numerous academic and athletic honors, including being named to all-conference teams in basketball and track. She has also been awarded twice the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Award of Excellence, a distinction given to student-athletes who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity. She now plans to attend college, where she will compete in track while studying exercise science or kinesiology and pursue a career as an athletic trainer, welcoming and influencing her new family of athletes.
Into the Next Chapter
Though their stories are different, what these young women carry forward is the same. They have seen what it looks like to be supported, experienced faith lived out daily, and learned that even in uncertainty, God remains constant. With gratitude for what they have received, they step into their next chapter—entering classrooms, hospitals, fields, and communities—lives transformed and seeking to transform others.
